Star Wars Resistance, Gimme that BB-8 Backstory!
I think I will enjoy Star Wars’ latest animated adventures in the new show coming to the Disney Channel in October. I have heard some people on social media expressing disappointment that the show seems aimed at kids but I tend to enjoy that content as much as some of the more gritty Star Wars offerings (e.g. Rogue One), though I really enjoy all flavours of Star Wars. I find the animated content can actually have more re-watchability for me because it is just pure entertainment and story-telling. I enjoyed (most of) The Clone Wars and I full-on love Rebels and LEGO Freemaker Adventures. As far as the art style in the new show, I am not put off by the cel shading animation that Resistance is using; I find it refreshing and I like that they are exploring different styles. But I understand how subjective art can be.
As always, I am okay if people disagree, and if Resistance isn’t your cuppa, I am sure you can find something in the Galaxy far, far away to quench your thirst. If you want to know more about what we know so far about Resistance, check out these links below from the community.
First, for a quick roll call, check out “Who is Who in Star Wars Resistance” where Wesley names the cast.
Also his Twitter thread of fan theories and hopes for the show is worth a look:
The Wookiee Gunner: A Closer Look at the ‘Star Wars Resistance’ Teaser Trailer This piece goes into detail on each of the characters we see in the short trailer and some other details about the show.
I really loved reading this interview with the Art Director, Amy Beth Christenson in an article by Amy Richau on her site 365StarWarsWomen. Christenson has an impressive 18 year Star Wars resume including Senior/Lead Concept Designer for The Force Unleashed I&II games, and was a concept designer for episodes of The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
Also worth a read is this piece on Vulkk.com. My friend Vulkk isn’t as enthusiastic as I am about Resistance and he goes into his reservations in detail with lots of analysis and passion.
How about you? Are you looking forward to Disney’s latest Star Wars show or are you reserving judgement until it airs?
Star Wars Resistance will premiere on Sunday, October 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on The Disney Channel.
